Salad Dressing Recommendation

Posted on June 05 2018

Let’s face it, we’ve all gone ‘healthy’ at least once in a while. Maybe saw your idol on TV or on the internet and decided to eat healthy, slim down and become more like them. A nice goal but only few achieve that. For those who do, we know it’s all about a good diet and exercise. One of those things for a good diet is a well made salad. In order to achieve that we need to have a good a salad dressing, otherwise it’s just a bunch of ingredients. Today, we share our best salad dressings that we recommend for you to try.

Balsamic Vinaigrette:

This dressing is the all purpose dressing we have. It can be used with a wide variety of salads and is very easy to make. Literally uses only 4 ingredients; let’s take a look at what they are.

  • ¼ cup of balsamic vinegar
  • ¾ cup of extra-virgin olive oil
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • Salt

Other ingredients such as minced garlic and a selection of herbs can be added to the vinaigrette. But for the basic vinaigrette, you need the four mentioned ingredients. In order to make it, add the vinegar and the oil into a jar with a sealing lid. Add a pinch of pepper and salt and then shake vigorously to ensure the ingredients are well blended. Use a piece of lettuce to dip and taste, and then make adjustments to the salt, pepper, oil or vinegar according to your taste. This should last you several weeks on the counter, a bit more if you refrigerate. Always make sure that the ratio for the oil and vinegar should always be 3:1.

Italian Salad Dressing:

Everyone loves Italian food and that is why the second salad dressing we recommend to have in your arsenal is the Italian Salad dressing. Uses a bit more ingredients but is just that great. Here is what you need:

  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1 large garlic clove, pressed
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped shallots
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup of neutral oil for use in a salad (Canola Oil is best, although Olive oil can be used as well)

The actual making process is very easy, all you have to do is to combine the ingredients together and in either a sealed jar or in a bowl and shake them or whisk them thoroughly until well combined. And that’s it. The dressing is done.

These are two salad dressing recommendations we suggest everybody should have in their culinary arsenal. This will make your regular salads all the more special. As always, store both of them in a jar and refrigerate them when made. They should last you several weeks
